Based in New Haven, Anne Rhodes (b. 1976) performs a wide variety of experimental, improvised, and classical music. She has appeared at such venues as Issue Project Room, The Stone, and Firehouse 12 and has premiered works by more than thirty composers, including Anthony Braxton, Jessica Pavone, Taylor Ho Bynum, Carl Testa, and Alvin Lucier. Rhodes performs as a member of the improvisation trio Broadcloth (Nathan Bontrager, cello and Adam Matlock, accordion), for which she produces unique embroidered graphic notation. She is a principle singer and an assistant conductor for Anthony Braxton's Tri-Centric Orchestra, has been a guest soloist with the Flux Quartet, and appeared with members of Alarm will Sound on the recording of Mikael Karlsson’s On This Planet (premiered with Cedar Lake Ballet in Baden-Baden, 2010) as well as members of ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble) in the premiere of Tyshawn Sorey’s This (2010). Her duo recording with Braxton (GTM Syntax 2007, Leo Records) has been called “one of art’s great male-female pairings” (Lawrence Cosentino, Signal to Noise). Rhodes currently studies voice with Elizabeth Saunders.
